History Of The Prosser Farmers Market

The Prosser Farmers' Market was formed under the Agriculture Committee of the Prosser Economic Development Association chaired by Max Benitz, Jr.,  Gayle Wheeler, Director,  and Linda Hall in 1993.

The market opened assisted by the Port of Benton, Ben Bennett and Scott Keller on July 17, 1993 with seven vendors. The market was located at the northeast corner of the Prosser Airport.  The market continued to locate at the airport during the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

In 1995 the market relocated to the parking lot of the Prosser Public Library, blocking off Sommers Avenue and adjacent to the Prosser City Park with the assistance of Ken Carter and the Prosser City Council.

In the fall of 2000 Chuck Dawsey, Benton Rural  Electric Association, helped the Farmers' Market obtained a grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture administered by the Northwest Cooperative Development Center.

With many thanks for eight years of support from the Prosser Economic Development Association the Farmers' Market has now formed their own cooperative called the Farmers' Market Co-op. This is the fifteenth season of the Prosser Farmers' Market.  The market continues to grow and improve each year.
